6 Upcoming Designer Brands That Should Be On Your Radar
The busiest month in fashion has concluded. As always, each season welcomes veteran brands showcasing their latest works as well as up-and-coming designers wanting to make their mark. In case you’ve missed them, here are six under-the-radar talents that you need to know about:
1. The Garment
The Scandinavian brand The Garment is a minimalist’s dream. Designed under the direction of Sophia Roe and Charlotte Eskildsen, The Garment is a brand that creates seasonless pieces that would be well-suited to a capsule wardrobe.
Within the collections, you’ll discover exquisite knitwear and precise tailoring in monochromatic colourways such as black and white. On occasion, you may spot pastel or earthy tones too. While these limitations could seem mundane, The Garment has done an incredible job of experimenting with textures and layering, ensuring that each piece prevails.
2. House Of Sunny
Founded in 2012 by Sunny Williams, House of Sunny is a Hackney-based brand that has started turning the heads of celebrities such as Bella Hadid. Their ready-to-wear collections are environmentally conscious and curated from vintage-inspired colour palettes.
Their latest collection, dubbed ‘The Law of Attraction’ was shown at London Fashion Week this February. It featured celestial designs that oozed romance as well as androgynous silhouettes such as double-breasted blazers.
3. Feben
Feben Vemmenby is a recent graduate from Central Saint Martins and has quickly made a name for herself. Her eponymous brand, Feben focuses on reclaiming the feeling of displacement and nomadism. She does this by taking a surrealistic approach to black identity and how her own identity has shifted throughout her life.
Feben’s collections often feature signature silk twisted dresses, abstract prints of the human body and puffer silhouettes.
4. AN-Y1
AN-Y1 is a fairly new contemporary sports-luxe designer brand that was inspired by the world of motorsport. It was founded in 2022 and focuses on easy-to-wear pieces that can instantly take you from day to night.
While it was born in Monaco, it was raised and designed in London. The debut line “The Monaco Collection” paid homage to its heritage and the Monte Carlo racing scene. Since then it’s dropped versatile jumpsuits and gorgeous leather moto jackets. This funky yet chic collection has been seen on many celebs and influencers.
5. Desirée Iyama
Nigerian-based designer Desirée Iyama created her eponymous brand in 2016. Iyama creates captivating silhouettes that play around with femininity and sensuality. Her pieces have a timeless yet tender aesthetic that has been designed for everyone. The brand prides itself on body positivity and delivering clothing that makes people feel confident.
Each Desirée Iyama garment has been crafted in their Lagos studio and has been hand-cut by Desirée herself.
6. Dilara Findikoglu
Dilara Findikoglu is a Turkish-Brit designer with daring and dynamic collections. Gothic and metal subcultures heavily influence Findikoglu’s work, however, each collection is brought together by a relevant social commentary.
One of the iconoclastic designer’s most prevalent works is her “Joan’s Knives” dress which was worn by Hari Nef at the London premiere of Barbie. The dress was inspired by the vision of Joan of Arc seeking revenge after her death. It featured a cluster of Victorian knives acting as womanised weaponry.
